Car
From anywhere in Western Transdanubia, take the M1 motorway heading towards Budapest. Depending on your starting location, you may need to connect to the M7 or M86 to reach the M1. Once on the M1, follow the signs for Budapest. As you approach Budapest, follow the signs for the city center. You will arrive at Heroes' Square (Hősök tere) located in District XIV. There is parking available nearby, but it may incur a fee of around 500 HUF per hour. Look for parking signs indicating 'P' for public parking.
Train
If you are near a train station, take a train to Budapest. Major stations like Szombathely or Sopron offer direct train services to Budapest's Keleti Railway Station. Upon arrival at Keleti, exit the station and take the Metro Line 2 (Red Line) towards Déli Pályaudvar. Get off at the next stop, which is Astoria, and transfer to Metro Line 3 (Blue Line) towards Újpest-Központ. Get off at the stop called 'Hősök tere'. Once you exit the station, Heroes' Square is just a short walk away.
Bus
You can also take a bus from various towns in Western Transdanubia to Budapest. Look for long-distance buses heading to Budapest. Once you arrive at the bus terminal in Budapest, you can take Metro Line 3 (Blue Line) from 'Kálvin tér' to 'Hősök tere'. Heroes' Square is located just outside the station. Ensure you buy a bus ticket in advance which can range from 2,500 HUF to 4,000 HUF depending on your departure point.
Public Transport
Once you arrive in Budapest, you can use the city's public transport system which includes metro, trams, and buses. If you're near a bus or tram station, several lines connect to Heroes' Square. For example, tram number 1 or bus number 200E will take you close to the square. Make sure to purchase a travel card or ticket from a kiosk or vending machine beforehand. A single ticket costs around 350 HUF.
