Car
From Akureyri, start by heading north on Route 1 (Hringvegur) towards the town of Grenivík. Continue along Route 1 for about 40 kilometers until you reach the small town of Dalvík. From there, follow signs to the ferry terminal that operates to Grímsey Island. The ferry ride takes approximately 3 hours and costs around 5,000 ISK for a round trip. Once you arrive at Grímsey, you can explore the island and find the Arctic Circle marker. Note that ferry schedules may vary, so check ahead for times.
Public Transportation
To reach Grímsey Island using public transportation, start by taking a bus from Akureyri to Dalvík. The bus service is operated by Strætó, and the journey takes about 30 minutes, costing approximately 1,500 ISK. Upon arrival in Dalvík, you will need to walk to the ferry terminal for the ferry to Grímsey Island. Make sure to check the bus and ferry schedules in advance to ensure a smooth connection.
