Getting There

• Car

  From Borgarfjörður, head southeast on Road 1 (Þjóðvegur 1) towards Garðabær. Continue on Road 1 for approximately 70 kilometers. Take the exit toward Garðabær and merge onto Road 41 (Suðurlandsvegur). Follow the signs for Garðabær. Once you enter Garðabær, keep an eye out for the coordinates 34C4+MJQ, which will lead you to the Maríuhellar location. This journey takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes depending on traffic.

• Public Transportation

  Take a bus from Borgarfjörður to Reykjavik. From there, you can catch a bus heading towards Garðabær. You will need to transfer buses in Reykjavik, and this can take some time, so be sure to check the bus schedules in advance. Once you arrive in Garðabær, use a local taxi service to reach the coordinates 34C4+MJQ, which is where Maríuhellar is located. The entire journey can take upwards of 2-3 hours.
