Akranesviti: The Beacon of Akranes

Getting There

• Car

  To reach Akranesviti by car from any location in Borgarfjörður, head towards Route 1 (the Ring Road). Take Route 1 south towards Reykjavik. After about 40 km, take the exit for Route 51 towards Akranes. Follow Route 51 for about 10 km, then merge onto Route 54 towards Akranes. Continue on this road until you reach Breiðargata in Akranes. Look for the coordinates 8W54+G2M, and you will find the lighthouse there. Parking is available near the lighthouse.

• Public Transportation

  If you prefer to use public transportation, start by taking a bus from Borgarnes to Reykjavik. You can check the schedule and routes on the Strætó website. Upon reaching Reykjavik, transfer to a bus heading to Akranes (Bus number 57 typically operates this route). The bus will take you directly to Akranes. Once you arrive in Akranes, you can walk to Akranesviti, which is located at Breiðargata. It is approximately a 15-minute walk from the bus stop.

• Taxi

  For a more private option, you can take a taxi from Borgarfjörður to Akranesviti. Although this will be more expensive, it offers a direct route without the need for public transport schedules. Ensure to negotiate the fare or ask the driver for an estimate before starting your journey. The ride typically takes around 45 minutes, depending on traffic conditions.
