Brúarfoss: A Hidden Gem of Iceland's Golden Circle

Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, start from Þingvellir National Park, which is one of the main attractions on the Golden Circle. Head east on Route 36 towards Laugarvatn and continue on Route 37. Merge onto Route 365 and follow the signs for Brúarfoss. You'll want to keep an eye out for the sign directing you to Brúarfoss, as the road can be somewhat hidden. After about 12 kilometers on Route 365, you will reach a parking area (note that there might be a small fee for parking). From the parking lot, follow the path marked towards Brúarfoss, which is about a 30-minute walk through scenic landscapes.

• Public Transportation

  If you are using public transportation, your best option is to take a bus from Reykjavík to Geysir, a popular stop on the Golden Circle. From Geysir, you will need to arrange for a taxi or a local shuttle service to take you to Brúarfoss. The distance is approximately 20 kilometers, and while public transportation directly to Brúarfoss is limited, taxis are available and can be booked in advance. Ensure that you confirm the cost with the driver before starting your ride.

• Walking

  For those already in the vicinity, if you have a vehicle parked near the parking area for Brúarfoss, the walk from there is straightforward. The path is well-marked and takes about 30 minutes to hike to the waterfall. Ensure you wear sturdy shoes as some areas can be uneven.
