Getting There

• Car

  If you're traveling by car, start from the nearest significant location, such as Hella or Selfoss. From Hella, take Route 26 heading northeast until you reach the intersection with Route 1 (the Ring Road). Continue on Route 1 for about 30 km until you reach Route 32. Turn left onto Route 32 and follow it until you reach the junction with Route 26. From here, take Route 26 north until you reach the road leading to Landmannalaugar. Please note that the road conditions can vary, and a 4x4 vehicle is recommended due to rough terrain. Follow the signs to Bláhnjúkur after entering the Landmannalaugar area. The drive may take around 2-3 hours depending on your starting point and road conditions.

• Public Transportation

  For those relying on public transportation, you can catch a bus from Reykjavik to Hella or Selfoss. From there, you will need to book a connecting bus to Landmannalaugar, which operates during the summer months. Once you arrive at Landmannalaugar, you can either hike to Bláhnjúkur or join a guided tour. The bus ride from Reykjavik to Landmannalaugar may take around 4-5 hours, and additional costs for the bus fare will vary based on the operator, so make sure to check for current prices.

• Hiking

  If you're already in the Highlands and looking to hike to Bláhnjúkur, the trailhead is located within the Landmannalaugar area. From the Landmannalaugar campsite, follow the marked trail towards Bláhnjúkur, which is approximately a 1-2 hour hike. The trail is well-marked, but it is recommended to be prepared for varying weather conditions and to wear sturdy hiking boots. Carry sufficient water and snacks for the hike, as there are no facilities along the way.
