If you are driving, start from the nearest town of Húsafell. Take Route 518 north until you reach Route 1 (the Ring Road). Continue east on Route 1 for about 25 kilometers. Then, turn right onto Route 550 towards the Highlands. Follow Route 550 for approximately 15 kilometers until you reach the parking area near Surtshellir. Keep an eye out for signs directing you to the lava tube. Parking is usually free.
