Getting There

Car
If you're driving, start by entering Vatnajökull National Park. From the Ring Road (Route 1), take the exit towards Skaftafell (Route 998). Follow Route 998 for approximately 5 km. Look for signs directing you to Skaftafellsstofa, which is located at 785 Skaftafell, right at the entrance of the Skaftafell area. There is a parking lot available near the visitor center, but be aware that there might be a parking fee of around ISK 1,000 to ISK 2,000.

Public Transportation
To reach Skaftafellsstofa by public transportation, check the schedules of the bus service operated by Sterna. There are buses that run from Reykjavik to Skaftafell, but make sure to check the latest schedule as it may vary by season. The bus will drop you off at the Skaftafell bus stop, which is about a 10-minute walk from Skaftafellsstofa. From the bus stop, follow the signs leading to the visitor center. Note that the bus fare can range from ISK 10,000 to ISK 15,000, depending on the season.

Hiking
If you are already in the vicinity of Skaftafell and prefer to hike, there are several marked trails leading to Skaftafellsstofa. From the Svartifoss trailhead, follow the trail signs towards the visitor center. The hike is approximately 1 hour and is well marked. Be sure to wear sturdy shoes and bring water, as the terrain can be uneven.
