Getting There

  • Walking

    From the center of Vik, head towards the main road, Route 1 (also known as the Ring Road). Walk northeast along the road for approximately 2 kilometers. You will pass by the charming Vik Church on your left. Continue walking until you reach a sign for Fimmvörðuháls Trailhead, which is located near the intersection of Route 1 and the road leading to the hiking area. Follow the trail signs to your left. The trailhead is located just off the main road, and you will see a small parking area. Note that the trail begins with initial steps leading upwards.

  • Biking

    If you prefer biking, rent a bicycle from one of the local shops in Vik. After securing your bike, head towards Route 1, biking northeast for approximately 2 kilometers. Keep an eye out for the sign for Fimmvörðuháls Trailhead, which will be on your left side as you approach the intersection with the road leading to the hiking area. Park your bike in the designated area at the trailhead where you can begin your hike.

  • Tourist Shuttle

    Check if there is a local shuttle service available in Vik that offers trips to popular hiking locations, including Fimmvörðuháls. If available, book a seat on the shuttle service. The shuttle will drop you off at or near the Fimmvörðuháls Trailhead, allowing you to start your hike directly from there.
