Getting There

• Car

  From Sawtooth National Recreation Area, head south on ID-75 S toward Sun Valley. Continue on ID-75 S until you reach ID-20 W. Merge onto ID-20 W and drive for approximately 40 miles. Take the exit toward ID-51 S, and continue on ID-51 S for about 20 miles. Follow the signs to the Owyhee River Wilderness, which will require you to turn onto Owyhee Rd. Please note that this road can be rough, so a high-clearance vehicle is recommended.

• Public Transportation

  If you do not have access to a car, you can take a bus from the Sawtooth area to the nearest town with public transport options, such as Mountain Home. From there, you would need to rent a car to reach the Owyhee River Wilderness. Keep in mind that public transportation availability may be limited, and it's best to check the schedule in advance. Renting a car may incur additional costs, generally around $50-$100 per day depending on the rental company.

• Biking

  For the more adventurous, biking from Sawtooth to Owyhee River Wilderness is an option. Start on ID-75 S and connect to ID-20 W. The total distance is about 60 miles, and it can take several hours depending on your fitness level. Be prepared for varying terrain and make sure to carry enough water and supplies. This option is highly recommended for experienced cyclists.

• Hiking

  If you're already near the wilderness and looking for a hiking route, you can enter through designated trails. However, note that this may require a backcountry permit, which can be obtained from the local ranger station. Check for trail conditions and accessibility before starting your hike. The wilderness area may be remote, and ensure you have adequate gear and provisions.
