Madigan State Park sign, and immediately after crossing the railroad tracks, turn left into the park. Parking is available in designated parking lots. Parking is free.

    From Lincoln, Illinois, you can walk or bike to the park. Head south on Old Route 66 (Business 55). Follow Old Route 66 until you see the Edward R. Madigan State Park sign. Turn right at the sign, and immediately after crossing the railroad tracks, turn left into the park. Please be aware of traffic along this route. There are no sidewalks for a portion of the route.

Edward R. Madigan State Park, a 974-acre haven in Logan County, just south of Lincoln, Illinois, is an ideal destination for those seeking a tranquil outdoor experience. The park was established in 1971, originally named Railsplitter State Park, but was renamed in 1995 to honor Edward R. Madigan, a former U.S. Representative and Secretary of Agriculture.The park's diverse landscape features rolling hills, verdant woodlands, and the meandering Salt Creek, creating a picturesque setting for various activities. Visitors can explore a 7-mile hiking and bicycle trail that winds through grassland, woodland, and riparian habitats. For a shorter workout, a three-quarter mile jogging trail is also available. Fishing is popular in Salt Creek, with opportunities to catch largemouth and smallmouth bass, bluegill, sunfish, crappie, channel catfish, bullheads, and carp. Canoeing is permitted on Salt Creek, with a convenient access ramp near the north park boundary.Wildlife enthusiasts will appreciate the chance to observe deer, raccoons, pheasants, quail, rabbits, and various bird species. The park is also known as a birding hotspot. Picnic areas with tables, outdoor stoves, and toilets are scattered throughout the park, making it perfect for a family outing. Shelters are also available. Other amenities include playground equipment and horseshoe pits.Edward R.
