Driving
Apple River Canyon State Park is located approximately two hours west of Chicago. From major nearby towns like Apple River, Warren or Lena, follow well-signed roads to the park entrance. Once inside the park, follow the main road to the day-use area and parking lots. Parking is free for daily trail users. Be aware that the road into the campground is narrow and winding. During winter, check for road closures due to snowfall.

From the parking lot, trailheads are easily accessible. The Pine Ridge Nature Trail starts right at the paved parking lot. Other trails like the River Route Nature Trail and Tower Rock Nature Trail are accessible from a smaller parking area across N Canyon Park Rd. Follow the signs to your desired trail.
