Apple River Canyon State Park: A Driftless Area Gem

Apple River Canyon State Park, located in Jo Daviess County, Illinois, is a natural haven characterized by its distinctive geological features and serene environment. The park's landscape is defined by the Apple River, which has carved a deep canyon through limestone bluffs over centuries. In the 19th century, the area was home to the town of Millville, a bustling service center for miners and settlers. The town was eventually washed away by a flood in 1892.
