    If you are in downtown Elgin, start at the Elgin Public Library located at 270 N Grove Ave. Head east on N Grove Ave until you reach E Chicago St. Turn right on E Chicago St and continue walking until you reach the intersection with N State St. Turn left onto N State St. Continue walking north until you reach the intersection with E Highland Ave. Turn right onto E Highland Ave and walk until you reach the intersection with Brookside Dr. Turn left onto Brookside Dr. Continue walking until you see the Hawthorne Hill Nature Center at 28 Brookside Dr on your left.

    For those who prefer biking, start at the Elgin Riverwalk.
