Halim Time & Glass Museum: A Celebration of Art and Time

The Halim Time & Glass Museum, located in Evanston, just north of Chicago, is a unique cultural institution that celebrates the intersection of art and horology. Opened in 2017, the five-story museum houses the extensive private collection of Cameel Halim, an Egyptian immigrant who developed a passion for timepieces and stained glass.The museum's collection features over 1,100 clocks and watches from around the world, some dating back to the 1600s. These timepieces include tower clocks, chronometers, automatons, pocket watches, and tall case clocks, meticulously restored and preserved. The clocks are organized by their country of origin, offering visitors a glimpse into the history and craftsmanship of different cultures.In addition to its horological treasures, the Halim Time & Glass Museum boasts a stunning collection of stained glass art. More than 30 masterpieces tell the story of the American School of Stained Glass, with works by renowned artists such as Louis Comfort Tiffany, Tillinghast, Lamb, and Sperry. The collection includes an $85,000 Louis Comfort Tiffany window portraying Saint John the Divine and glassworks by Tiffany's rival studio, John La Farge. One of the highlights is the Ascension window, a Tiffany masterpiece from Newark's Trinity Episcopal Church.The museum also features temporary exhibitions in collaboration with other institutions and offers spaces for private events, including a banquet hall topped with a Tiffany ceiling. The Halim Time & Glass Museum is not just a repository of art and history but also a testament to one man's passion and dedication to preserving these treasures for future generations.
