Jericho Lake Park: An Aurora Oasis

Jericho Lake Park, located on the west side of Aurora, Illinois, is a 66-acre haven featuring a 20-acre lake perfect for fishing and boating. Originally a reclaimed rock quarry with a maximum depth of 26.2 feet, the lake is maintained by the Fox Valley Park District (FVPD). The park provides a mile-long trail around the lake, inviting visitors to walk, run, and appreciate the local wildlife. The park is known for its well-maintained facilities, including clean restrooms and a covered picnic area, making it ideal for family gatherings and leisurely afternoons. Anglers can enjoy shore fishing, and a boat ramp is available for small boats with electric motors. Other recreational activities include disc golf, with an 18-hole course that is free to the public. Jericho Lake Park is also dog-friendly, featuring areas where pets can play and socialize.In the mid-1980s, Jericho Lake Park was completed with a sports complex named for John A. Lippold. A $1.3 million revitalization project in 2013 introduced a new shelter and overlook, restrooms, and a permanent dock and floating pier. The FVPD has a cooperative agreement with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) to manage the fisheries, stocking the lake annually with channel catfish and Northern Pike.
