Discover more about Linmar Gardens

Linmar Gardens, a hidden gem in Galena, Illinois, offers a tranquil escape across 3.5 acres of meticulously landscaped grounds. Once a rocky limestone bluff, Harold Martin purchased the property in 1976 and transformed it into the lush paradise visitors enjoy today. The gardens showcase a diverse array of flora, including annuals and perennials artistically planted around the grounds. Water features enhance the serene atmosphere, with flowing brooks, ponds, fountains, and a 20-foot waterfall cascading from a natural bluff. Visitors can explore themed gardens, such as the Four Seasons Garden with its unique sculptures and the Sunken Garden, built on the ruins of one of Illinois' first African-American churches. Other highlights include a replica of a lead mine cut into a limestone wall and a bell tower from a Galena firehouse. Two gazebos offer peaceful spots for reflection. Guided tours, available Tuesday through Saturday, provide insights into the garden's history and design. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended due to the uneven terrain.
