Public Bus
From anywhere in Palatine, locate the nearest Pace bus stop. Depending on your location, you can take the Pace Route 696, which operates from Palatine to the nearby Metra train station. Board the bus and ride to the Palatine Metra Station. Once you arrive at the station, purchase a ticket for the Union Pacific Northwest line towards Chicago. The train will take you directly to the Ogilvie Transportation Center in downtown Chicago. From Ogilvie, transfer to the 'L' train and take the Brown Line towards Kimball. Get off at the Wells & North station. Upon exiting the station, head east towards the Gold Coast area by walking down North Avenue. Cross over to the Gold Coast neighborhood where you can explore the attractions.
Walking
If you're within walking distance to the Metra train station, you can simply walk there. Head south on the nearest main road toward the station. Once at the station, buy your ticket for the Union Pacific Northwest line towards Chicago. After arriving at the Ogilvie Transportation Center, you can either walk or take public transport to the Gold Coast. If you choose to walk, head east along Washington Street until you reach North Avenue, then turn left and continue walking until you reach the Gold Coast area.
Bicycle
If you're comfortable cycling, you can rent a bike from one of the local bike-sharing programs available in Palatine. Start by cycling towards the Metra train station in Palatine. From there, take the bike path leading towards Lake-Cook Road. Follow the bike path to the train station and board the Union Pacific Northwest line to Ogilvie Transportation Center. After arriving, you can continue cycling through downtown Chicago. Use bike lanes to head towards North Avenue and follow the signs to the Gold Coast area.
