Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving from downtown Prairie State, start by heading south on Main St toward E Eldorado St. Continue for about 2 miles until you reach IL-36 E. Merge onto IL-36 E and continue for approximately 3 miles. Take the exit toward IL-51 S/US-51 S. Merge onto IL-51 S and follow for about 10 miles. Take the exit toward E Nearing Ln, and turn right onto Nearing Ln. Rock Springs Conservation Area will be on your left at 3939 Nearing Ln, Decatur, IL 62521. Total driving time is approximately 20-25 minutes, depending on traffic.

• Public Transportation

  For those using public transportation, take the Prairie State city bus (Route 5) to the Decatur Amtrak station. From the station, you can catch a taxi or use a rideshare service like Uber or Lyft to reach Rock Springs Conservation Area. The taxi ride will take about 15 minutes, costing approximately $15-$20, depending on traffic.

• Bicycle

  For the adventurous, bicycling to Rock Springs Conservation Area is an option. Start from Prairie State by heading south on Main St and then take a left onto E Eldorado St. Continue onto the bike path that leads to IL-36 E. Follow the bike-friendly routes to connect with Nearing Ln. The total distance is about 10 miles, which should take around 45-60 minutes depending on your cycling speed and stops. Ensure you wear a helmet and follow all safety regulations.

• Walking

  Walking to Rock Springs Conservation Area is not recommended due to the distance of approximately 10 miles from downtown Prairie State. If you choose to walk, head south on Main St toward E Eldorado St, then follow IL-36 E. This journey will take over 2 hours and involves walking along roads with vehicle traffic. It is advised to use this option only if you are well-prepared and in good physical condition.
