The Cahokia Courthouse, dating back to 1740, stands as Illinois' oldest courthouse and a tangible link to the state's territorial past. Originally a French residence, it transformed into a pivotal center for political and legal activities in the Northwest Territory. Exhibits inside depict the lives and cases of the early 1800s, offering a glimpse into a bygone era.

Public Transport
If arriving via public transportation from St. Louis, take the MetroLink to the 5th & Missouri station in East St. Louis. From there, transfer to one of the MetroBus routes (2, 3, or 8) that serve Cahokia Heights. Get off at the Illinois Route 3 @ 4th Street stop, which is a short walk from the courthouse. A single MetroBus ride costs $2.
Driving
If driving from St. Louis, cross the Poplar Street Bridge into Illinois. Continue on I-55 S/I-64 E/US-40 E. Take exit 2 for Illinois Route 3 toward Cahokia/Columbia. Follow Illinois Route 3, and turn onto Elm Street. The Cahokia Courthouse will be on your left. There is an asphalt parking lot with designated accessible parking spaces. Parking is free. Note that parking may be limited during special events.
