Schaumburg Township District Library: A Community Hub

The Schaumburg Township District Library (STDL) stands as a cornerstone of the community, offering a wealth of resources and services to the residents of Schaumburg and surrounding areas. As the second-largest public library in Illinois, it boasts a collection of over 600,000 items, including books, DVDs, CDs, and software, catering to diverse interests and age groups. Beyond its extensive collection, the library provides access to over 180 computers and a range of programs and events, from storytimes and book discussions to technology classes and teen music collectives. The library also fosters local history preservation through its Local History Digital Archive, containing over 60,000 digitized items related to Schaumburg Township's past.The Central Library building itself is a notable landmark, featuring a glass sculpture by Dale Chihuly and other works by famous artists. The Youth Services Department offers an Enchanted Forest area, creating a kid-friendly atmosphere. The library has evolved over the years, starting from a small house in 1963 to its current 166,501 square foot building.
