From any location within Shawnee National Forest, head to IL-34. If you are in the vicinity of the Garden of the Gods Recreation Area, take IL-145 North to Junction with IL-34. Turn left onto IL-34 South and continue for approximately 15 miles. You will see the Herod Cave Historic Site on your left at 999 IL-34, Herod, IL 62947. Look for the sign indicating the site.

Take a Greyhound or similar bus to either location, and then use a rideshare service or taxi to reach Herod Cave Historic Site.
