Sardar Khan Makbara, also known as Nawab Sardar Khan's Mosque and Tomb, is a historical complex located in the Jamalpur area of Ahmedabad, Gujarat. This monument, recognized as a Monument of National Importance, provides insights into Ahmedabad's Mughal past. Sardar Khan was a minister during the Mughal rule. After Dara Shikoh lost the battle of Deorai in 1659, he fled to Gujarat and attempted to enter Ahmedabad. However, Sardar Khan declared allegiance to Aurangzeb. The architecture of Sardar Khan's Roza, constructed in 1685, features a blend of Indo-Islamic styles with influences from the Gujarat Sultanate and Mughal designs. The tomb is built of stone with marble flooring. The mosque, made of brick, is situated on a high platform and has a façade with three pointed arches and two minarets on either side. The minarets, four stories high, have octagonal bases and circular upper parts, topped with gilt balls. The complex includes three large onion-shaped domes and a gateway with two domes. The mausoleums are known for their carvings, arches, French windows, sculptures, marble tracery, and silver doorways. Today, the Sardar Khan Makbara stands as a testament to Ahmedabad's historical and cultural heritage.
