Established in the early 19th century by Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the founder of the Sikh Empire, the garden served as his summer retreat. The garden was named after Guru Ram Das, the fourth Sikh Guru and founder of Amritsar.Modeled after the Shalimar Garden in Lahore, the sprawling 84-acre garden was completed in 1831.     From the Golden Temple, head west on Hall Bazaar, then turn north onto Queen's Road. Continue for approximately 1.5 km. The garden entrance will be on your left. Walking time is approximately 20-25 minutes.

    Public Transport

    Take an auto-rickshaw from the Amritsar Railway Station or Bus Stand. The garden is approximately 4 km from the Golden Temple and a 15-minute ride by auto-rickshaw. Negotiate the fare beforehand, which should be between ₹40-₹60 from the Railway Station and ₹20-₹40 from the Bus Stand.
