Discover more about Sri Dakshinamukha Nandi Tirtha Kalyaani Kshetra

Nestled in the bustling Malleshwaram area of Bengaluru, Sri Dakshinamukha Nandi Tirtha Kalyaani Kshetra is a captivating temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. What sets this temple apart is the Dakshinamukha Nandi, a stone bull statue facing south, an unusual orientation in Shiva temples. A continuous stream of water flows from the Nandi's mouth, cascading onto the Shiva Linga below and collecting in a stepped tank, or Kalyani. The source of this water remains a mystery, adding to the temple's allure. Believed to be around 400 years old, the temple was rediscovered in 1997 during excavation work, after being buried under dirt and mud. The temple's architecture features a pillared corridor surrounding the Kalyani. Unlike most Shiva temples where the Nandi faces the Shiva Linga directly, here the Nandi is positioned on a platform above the Linga. The temple complex also includes a shrine to Ganesha. Visitors can experience a sense of peace and wonder as they explore the temple. The continuous flow of water, the unique architecture, and the serene atmosphere make it a must-visit destination for those seeking spiritual solace or a glimpse into Bangalore's rich cultural heritage. The temple is open daily, with special poojas held during Maha Shiva Rathri and Kartik month.
