Jain Mandir Dadabari: A Tranquil Oasis of Faith and Art

Nestled in the historic Mehrauli area of South Delhi, the Jain Mandir Dadabari provides a tranquil escape from the city's hustle. This temple is dedicated to Dada Guru Manidhari Jinachandra Suriji, a Jain saint whose cremation site is within the temple grounds. The temple's origins are believed to date back to the 13th century, although the current structure is largely modern, featuring white marble and intricate designs. The temple complex is renowned for its exquisite marble carvings, numerous pillars, and ornamental brackets. Unlike many Jain temples, Dadabari features a painted ceiling adorned with designs of lotus buds, flowers, and scenes from Jain mythology, instead of traditional carvings. The interior is further enhanced by extensive glazed mirror work, with one shrine completely adorned with plain and stained glass. Paintings depicting Jain stories and the life of Dada Guru embellish the walls and corridors, offering insights into Jain philosophy and culture. The temple complex includes a large hall for gatherings, smaller shrines housing idols of Tirthankaras, and an artificially created hillock with additional shrines.
