Shops like Pandit Gaya Prasad Shiv Charan, established in 1872, and Pt. Kanhaiyalal Durgaprasad Dixit from 1875, have been run by sixth-generation descendants. By the late 1960s, around 20 shops thrived, all from the same family branches, but only a handful remain today amid urban changes. Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, and Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit famously visited, cementing its iconic status.

Culinary Delights

Parathas here are deep-fried in desi ghee, stuffed with fillings like aloo, dal, besan-methi, kaju, badam, matar, rabri, khoya, gobhi, and nimbu-mirch. No onion or garlic is used, honoring Brahmin and Jain traditions. Each paratha arrives golden and crisp, served on traditional pattals or plates with accompaniments: sweet tamarind and mint chutneys, mixed vegetable pickle, paneer-potato curry, aloo-methi, and sweet pumpkin mash.
