The Guwahati Rope Way, inaugurated in August 2020, is India's longest river ropeway, stretching 1.8 kilometers across the mighty Brahmaputra. It links the main city of Guwahati to North Guwahati, offering a swift and scenic alternative to traditional transport methods like ferries and road bridges. The ropeway operates on a twin-track, single-haul, bi-cable double reversible jig back system, ensuring a smooth and safe ride. The journey takes about 8 minutes, providing ample time to soak in the mesmerizing views. As you ascend, you'll be treated to a bird's-eye perspective of the Brahmaputra River, Umananda Island (also known as Peacock Island) with its medieval Shiva temple, and the sprawling cityscape of Guwahati. The lower terminal is located in Panbazar, near Nehru Park, while the upper terminal is situated behind the Dol Govinda Temple in North Guwahati. The ropeway not only eases transportation but also promotes tourism by offering an environmentally friendly and visually stunning experience.
