Sri Sri Ugratara Devalaya, situated in the heart of Guwahati's Uzan Bazar, is a prominent Hindu temple dedicated to Goddess Ugratara. As one of the Shakti Peethas, it holds immense religious and historical significance, attracting devotees and tourists alike.
According to legend, the temple marks the spot where the navel of Goddess Sati fell. The temple was built in 1725 by Ahom King Siva Singha, who also excavated a tank nearby. The temple is built in the Nilachala style. Unusually, the temple has no idol; instead, a water-filled pit is worshipped as the goddess. The temple was damaged in the 1897 earthquake but was later repaired.
The temple complex includes a Shiva temple and two ponds known as Jor Pukhuri. Many pigeons reside fearlessly in the temple, marked with vermilion spots. Durga Puja and Navratri are the main festivals celebrated here, drawing large crowds. During Durga Puja, animal sacrifices are performed to appease the goddess. The temple is open daily from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

From the heart of Uzan Bazar, head towards Lamb Road. Walk along Uzan Bazar until you reach the intersection with Lamb Road. Continue straight for about 10-15 minutes, and you will see the temple on your left.
