The Guwahati War Cemetery stands as a testament to the sacrifices made during World War II. Started during the war, it became the final resting place for soldiers from various military hospitals in the area. Over time, graves from other cemeteries and isolated sites in the region were moved here for permanent maintenance. The cemetery is located in the heart of Guwahati, in the Silpukhuri area on Navagraha Road. It is maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. The cemetery holds the remains of 486 Commonwealth servicemen from World War II, including 25 unidentified burials. In addition to the Commonwealth war graves, there are also 24 Chinese war graves and two non-war graves. Notably, the cemetery once contained the graves of 11 Japanese soldiers, but their remains were later repatriated to Japan. The cemetery is open to visitors every day and provides a tranquil setting for reflection and remembrance. The well-maintained grounds and memorial instill a sense of peace and respect.
