Getting There

Road

The Great Himalayan National Park is best accessed by road. From Delhi or Chandigarh, take a bus or hire a taxi to Aut, located approximately 30 km from Kullu. From Aut, you can hire a taxi to Gushaini (Tirthan Valley) or Neuli (Sainj Valley), which are the main entry points to the park. Be aware that there are no motorable roads inside the park; all exploration must be done on foot. Taxi from Aut to Gushaini or Neuli: Approximately INR 1500-2000. Note: There are no ATMs available in Gushaini or Neuli, so carry sufficient cash.
Air

The nearest airport to the Great Himalayan National Park is Bhuntar Airport (KUU), located approximately 50 km away. From the airport, you can hire a taxi or take a local bus to Kullu, and then proceed to Aut. From Aut, hire a taxi to Gushaini or Neuli, the entry points to the park. Taxi from Bhuntar Airport to Kullu: Approximately INR 800-1200. Bus from Bhuntar Airport to Kullu: Approximately INR 100-150. Taxi from Aut to Gushaini or Neuli: Approximately INR 1500-2000.

The Great Himalayan National Park (GHNP), established in 1984 and declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2014, is a biodiversity hotspot located in the Kullu region of Himachal Pradesh. Spanning 1,171 square kilometers, the park is characterized by its diverse range of flora and fauna, from dense deodar and oak forests at lower altitudes to alpine meadows at higher elevations.The park is home to over 375 species of fauna, including rare and endangered species such as the snow leopard, Himalayan brown bear, musk deer, and Western Tragopan. With over 209 species of birds, GHNP is also a birdwatcher's paradise. The park's diverse terrain, ranging from 1,500 to 6,000 meters, offers a variety of trekking routes for both beginners and experienced trekkers. Popular treks include the Tirthan Valley trek and the Sainj Valley trek.GHNP is divided into four valleys: Tirthan, Sainj, Jiwa Nal, and Parvati, each named after the rivers that originate within the park. The best time to visit GHNP is during the spring (April to June) and autumn (September to November) when the weather is pleasant and suitable for trekking and wildlife spotting. A permit is required to enter the park, and it is advisable to hire a local guide for a safe and enriching experience.
