Getting there

Car

If you are driving from Srinagar, head towards the Handwara road. Take NH 701 and follow the signs for Handwara. Once you reach Handwara, continue on the same road until you reach Tarat Pora. From Tarat Pora, follow the signs leading to Bangus Valley. The distance from Srinagar to Bangus Valley is about 100 km, and it will take approximately 3-4 hours depending on road conditions. Ensure your vehicle is suitable for mountain roads.

Public Transportation

From Srinagar, take a bus or shared taxi to Handwara. Buses leave regularly from the main bus station in Srinagar. The fare is approximately INR 100-150 and the journey takes about 2-3 hours. Once in Handwara, you can hire a local taxi or find shared transportation to Tarat Pora. The fare for this leg is around INR 300-500. From Tarat Pora, you can either hire a local jeep or trek to Bangus Valley, which is about 12 km away.

Trekking

For adventurous travelers, you can trek from Tarat Pora to Bangus Valley. The trek is approximately 12 km and takes around 4-5 hours. It is advisable to hire a local guide for this trek to ensure safety and to enhance your experience with local knowledge. Ensure you carry sufficient water and snacks, and wear appropriate trekking gear.

Local Taxi

Once you reach Handwara, you can hire a local taxi to take you directly to Bangus Valley. The cost for a round trip may vary from INR 1500-3000 depending on negotiation and duration of stay. This option allows for flexibility in exploring the valley.
