Getting there

Car

If you are traveling by car, start from Srinagar. Take the NH44 (Srinagar-Jammu Highway) and drive towards Anantnag. Continue on the highway for about 65 km until you reach Anantnag. From Anantnag, follow the road signs towards Pahalgam. After approximately 22 km, you will reach Pahalgam. This scenic route will take you through lush green landscapes and beautiful valleys. From Pahalgam, head towards Margan Top which is about 40 km away. The road may be narrow and winding, so drive cautiously. Upon reaching Margan Top (PFWP+42), you will find Death Valley nearby. Ensure your vehicle has enough fuel as there are limited fuel stations along the way.

Public Transportation

For those using public transportation, begin your journey from Srinagar to Anantnag by taking a bus from the main bus terminal in Srinagar. Buses are frequent and the fare is around INR 100-150. Once you reach Anantnag, you can hire a shared taxi or take another local bus towards Pahalgam. Shared taxis are available and typically charge around INR 300-400 per person. From Pahalgam, you can arrange a local taxi to Margan Top, which may cost around INR 800-1000. Be prepared for a scenic but potentially bumpy ride as you ascend to Margan Top (PFWP+42).

Hiking

If you are adventurous and physically fit, consider hiking to Death Valley from Margan Top. The hike is moderately challenging and will take approximately 2-3 hours. Start at Margan Top and follow the trails that lead towards Death Valley, which is renowned for its breathtaking views and natural beauty. Ensure you have proper hiking gear, sufficient water, and snacks. It's advisable to hike in groups for safety.
