Getting There

• Car

  To reach the Last Point of Northeastern India located in Rutog County, Ladakh, start your journey from Leh, which is the nearest major city. Drive from Leh to Khalsi on NH 1D, which takes about 1.5 hours. From Khalsi, continue on NH 1D towards Kargil. After approximately 2 hours, you will reach the town of Kargil. From Kargil, head towards Zanskar Valley, following the road signs. The drive will take another 3-4 hours. Once you reach the junction towards Rutog County, take the left turn and drive for about 2 hours on the unpaved road. Ensure your vehicle is suitable for rough terrain. The final destination is located at coordinates 33.0654502 latitude and 79.2191328 longitude.

• Public Transport

  From Leh, take a local bus or shared taxi to Kargil. The bus service operates regularly and the journey takes around 5-6 hours. Once you reach Kargil, hire a shared taxi or look for local transport heading towards Zanskar Valley. This part of the journey might take an additional 4 hours. Ensure to confirm if the taxi will take you all the way to Rutog County as some might drop passengers at nearby junctions. From the drop-off point, you may need to hire a local vehicle to reach the Last Point, which can cost around INR 1000-1500 for the final leg of the journey.

• Motorbike

  For the adventurous, renting a motorbike in Leh is a popular option. After renting a bike, take the route from Leh to Kargil via NH 1D, which takes about 5 hours. From Kargil, head towards Zanskar Valley, following the same route as cars. The journey will also take approximately 4 hours. Take precautions while riding on the unpaved roads leading to Rutog County. Remember to carry a valid driving license and necessary protective gear. Fuel stations are scarce, so refuel in Leh or Kargil before starting the trip.
