Travel Guide to Sarnath Deer Park

Getting There

• Rickshaw

  From the center of Varanasi, go to the nearest rickshaw stand, often found near major landmarks like Dashashwamedh Ghat. Tell the driver you want to go to Sarnath Deer Park. The ride will take approximately 30-40 minutes, depending on traffic. The driver will take you through the busy streets of Varanasi, so enjoy the sights along the way. Once you arrive, you’ll see the entrance to the park.

• Local Bus

  Head to the nearest bus stop in Varanasi; one common stop is near the Godowlia intersection. Look for a bus headed towards Sarnath. The fare is minimal, usually around 20-30 INR. The bus ride will take about 45 minutes. Once you arrive at Sarnath, you can walk to the Deer Park, which is about a 15-minute walk from the bus stop. Follow the signs pointing towards Sarnath Archaeological Park, and you’ll reach the entrance of the Deer Park.

• Bicycle

  If you’re feeling adventurous, renting a bicycle can be a great way to explore. Look for bicycle rental shops in Varanasi, especially around the ghats. From the ghats, head towards the Sarnath road (also known as Varanasi-Sarnath Road). It’s approximately a 10 km ride to Sarnath. Follow the road signs, and as you approach Sarnath, look for directions to the Deer Park. Make sure to wear a helmet and stay hydrated!

• Walking Tour

  For those who enjoy long walks, start at the Varanasi ghats and take a scenic route through the city. Head towards the Sarnath road, which is about 10 km away. This route will take you through local neighborhoods, where you can experience daily life in Varanasi. It’s a longer journey, taking around 2-3 hours, so wear comfortable shoes and take breaks as needed. Once you reach Sarnath, you will see the Deer Park entrance.
