Purchase a ticket to the Millennium Station in Chicago. The train ride will take about 55 minutes. Once you arrive at Millennium Station, exit the train and walk to the nearby State/Lake subway station. Take the Brown or Orange Line towards the Loop and get off at the Harold Washington Library station. From there, exit the station and walk east on W Congress Parkway until you reach S Dearborn St. Turn left on S Dearborn St, and you'll find Calder's Flamingo on your right.

    From Gary, Indiana, head to the nearest bus stop for the Gary Public Transportation Corporation (GPTC) buses. Take the GPTC bus route that heads towards the East Chicago station. From East Chicago, you will need to transfer to a bus that goes to the South Shore Line train station in Hammond. Once at the Hammond station, take the South Shore Line train towards Millennium Station in Chicago. After arriving at Millennium Station, take the Brown or Orange Line from the State/Lake subway station towards the Loop, and get off at Harold Washington Library.
