If you are traveling by car, start your journey from Pekanbaru, the capital of Riau. Head east on Jalan Soekarno-Hatta towards Jalan Riau. Continue onto Jalan Lintas Timur for approximately 120 kilometers. You will pass through several towns, including Siak and Pangkalan Kerinci. Once you reach Pangkalan Kerinci, follow signs for Pelalawan and then take the road towards Indragiri Hulu. After about 30 kilometers, keep an eye out for signs directing you to Tesso Nilo National Park. The park entrance is located at the coordinates -0.0758334, 101.6230565. Ensure your vehicle has enough fuel as petrol stations may be sparse in remote areas. Parking is available at the park entrance, but there may be a small fee, typically around IDR 5,000.

Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, begin your journey at the Pekanbaru bus terminal. Take a bus heading to Pangkalan Kerinci. The bus ride typically takes about 2 to 3 hours, costing around IDR 50,000. Upon arrival in Pangkalan Kerinci, you will need to take an ojek (motorcycle taxi) or shared minibus to Indragiri Hulu. The cost for the ojek is approximately IDR 30,000 to 50,000, or a shared minibus may cost around IDR 20,000. Once you arrive in Indragiri Hulu, ask the driver to drop you off at the entrance of Tesso Nilo National Park. Be prepared to negotiate the fare for the ojek and confirm the drop-off point.

For a more adventurous route, consider driving to a nearby river and taking a boat to Tesso Nilo. Start in Pekanbaru and drive to Pangkalan Kerinci as previously described. From Pangkalan Kerinci, head towards the nearest river port (ask locals for 'pelabuhan'). Arrange for a local fisherman or boat operator to take you across the river to the park. The boat trip typically costs around IDR 100,000 per person, depending on the distance and size of the boat. Ensure to confirm your return trip with the operator to avoid any issues getting back.
