Car
If you're starting from Sorong, South Papua, head southeast on the Trans Papua highway (also known as Jalan Trans Papua). Follow the signs towards Merauke, which is about 600 km away and will take approximately 10-12 hours by car. Make sure to refuel at stations along the way, as they can be sparse. Once you reach Merauke, you can continue to the port area to catch a ferry to the islands near papualan.
Public Transportation
From Jayapura, take a bus to Merauke. The journey will take around 12-14 hours. Once in Merauke, look for local transportation options, such as bemos (minibuses) or taxis, to reach the port. From there, you can book a ferry to travel towards papualan. Be sure to check the ferry schedule ahead of time as they may vary.
Ferry
After reaching the port in Merauke, purchase a ferry ticket to the islands near papualan. The ferry ride can take several hours depending on the specific destination. It's advisable to confirm the schedule in advance and arrive early to secure your spot. The cost of the ferry varies, so be prepared with cash for the ticket.
Local Transport
Once you arrive at your destination port near papualan, you may need to hire a local boat or arrange for a guide to take you to the specific location within papualan. This can often be negotiated on-site, and the price will depend on the distance and number of passengers. Ensure you agree on a price before setting off.
