If you are driving to Fort van der Capellen, start from Padang, the capital of West Sumatra. Take the Jalan Raya Padang - Bukittinggi (Route 32) heading northeast. Continue on this road for approximately 60 kilometers until you reach the town of Batusangkar. From Batusangkar, follow the local signs to the fort, which is located in the Baringin area of Lima Kaum. Expect the drive to take about 1.5 to 2 hours. Parking is available near the entrance of the fort.
