Car
If you're traveling by car, start from Padang, the capital of West Sumatra. Head north on Route 32 for approximately 80 km (about 2 hours). As you approach Bukittinggi, follow the signs to Payakumbuh. Once in Payakumbuh, continue towards Harau Valley. Look for signs indicating 'Harau' or 'Lima Puluh Kota', and take the turnoff onto Jalan Harau. Follow this road for about 10 km until you reach the entrance of Harau Valley, located at WM92+7W5, Harau, Lima Puluh Kota Regency, West Sumatra 26271.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, you can start at the main bus terminal in Padang. Look for a bus heading to Bukittinggi. The fare is typically around IDR 35,000. Once you arrive in Bukittinggi, transfer to a bus or minivan heading to Payakumbuh, which costs approximately IDR 20,000. After reaching Payakumbuh, you can take a local angkot (minibus) that goes directly to Harau Valley. The angkot fare is about IDR 10,000. Be sure to tell the driver your destination, and they will drop you off near the entrance of the valley.
Taxi or Ride-Hailing Service
If you're looking for convenience, consider using a taxi or a ride-hailing service like Gojek or Grab. From either Padang or Bukittinggi, you can book a ride directly to Harau Valley. The cost will vary based on your starting point, but expect to pay around IDR 300,000 to IDR 500,000 for a one-way trip from Padang. This option allows for a more comfortable journey and direct drop-off at the entrance of Harau Valley.
