Getting There

  • Public Bus

    From any location in Ankeny, head to the nearest bus stop and catch the DART bus route 1 or route 2 towards Des Moines. The bus will take you to the Merle Hay Mall area. Once you reach the mall, transfer to route 72 which goes directly to Urbandale. Ask the bus driver to let you know when you are nearing Hickman Road. Disembark at the stop closest to 11121 Hickman Rd. From there, itā€™s a short walk to Living History Farms.

  • Bicycle

    If you prefer cycling, start from the center of Ankeny and head south on S Ankeny Blvd. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with NE 86th St. Turn left and follow NE 86th St until you reach the intersection with Hickman Rd. Turn right on Hickman Rd and continue until you see Living History Farms on your left. The total distance is approximately 5 miles and is mostly on bike lanes.

    If you are close enough to walk, begin at the Ankeny Market and Pavilion. Head south on SW 3rd St until you reach the intersection with SW 9th St. Turn left and continue straight until you reach Hickman Rd. Turn right on Hickman Rd and keep walking until you reach Living History Farms at 11121 Hickman Rd. This walk is about 3.5 miles and may take around 1.5 hours.
