The Sitting Man, a colossal limestone sculpture, provides a unique and peaceful experience for visitors. Located on the grounds of Harvest Preserve in Iowa City, the sculpture invites reflection and appreciation of art within a natural setting. Carved from 110 tons of limestone and standing 20 feet tall, the statue was created by Douglas J. Paul and J.B. Barnhouse, being completed in 2013. The sculpture is located on the west side of Scott Boulevard, on land owned by Harvest Preserve. Harvest Preserve itself is a spiritual sanctuary with walking trails, restored prairie, and art installations. The preserve is open from sunrise to sunset. Visitors will also find a contemplative space called the Visionary Stone near the Sitting Man, dedicated to Dee Norton, a former Psychology professor at the University of Iowa. On the back of the sculpture, there is an inscription of a prayer dedicated to Paramahansa Yogananda, the founder of the Self-Realization Fellowship Church.
