A sign at the overlook commemorates the steel suspension bridge dedicated on June 9, 1932, which was later removed in 1974 and replaced by the Marquette-Joliet Bridge just to the south. Originally a toll bridge, the toll booth was located on the Prairie du Chien side, where a 90-cent toll per car was collected. Today, Marquette is a tourist destination known as one of Iowa's best-kept secrets. The town offers a blend of natural beauty, outdoor adventure, and small-town charm.
