The artifacts were unearthed by Kurdish archaeologists in the Duhok region. While the museum currently displays around 700 artifacts, it has a larger collection of approximately 3,000 items, with plans to move to a new location with a larger exhibit space. The museum is located near Azadi Park in the city center.
