Discover more about Jasana cave

Jasana Cave, located 50 kilometers west of Sulaymaniyah in the Surdash region, is more than just a geological formation; it's a symbol of Kurdish resilience and a testament to the region's rich history. Situated behind Kani Khan village, at the foot of the Nabi Agha heights in the Sara mountains, the cave is set in a valley surrounded by stunning natural beauty, including a nearby waterfall. The cave's entrance, triangular in shape, leads into a cavern approximately 40 meters long, 9 meters wide, and 7 meters high. The interior is divided into two sections: a larger front room and a smaller back room. These natural rock formations and the interplay of light and shadow create a mesmerizing landscape for visitors. Historically, Jasana Cave gained prominence during Sheikh Mahmoud Barzanji's revolution in 1923 when it served as a shelter from British attacks. It was here that the first Kurdish newspaper, "Bangi Haq" (Call of Truth), was published, marking a milestone in Kurdish media history. Later, in the 20th century, the cave provided refuge for Peshmerga forces during the Ba'ath regime. Today, Jasana Cave is a recognized historical landmark, drawing tourists and researchers alike.
