Sulaymaniyah International Airport: Gateway to Iraqi Kurdistan

Sulaymaniyah International Airport (IATA: ISU, ICAO: ORSU) serves as the main airport for Sulaymaniyah and the surrounding region of Iraqi Kurdistan. Located approximately 14 kilometers west of the city center, the airport provides both passenger and cargo services, connecting Sulaymaniyah to various domestic and international destinations. Following the removal of Saddam Hussein, construction of the airport began in November 2003, and it was officially opened in July 2005 by former Iraqi President Jalal Talabani. The airport has three terminals: one each for departures, arrivals, and VIPs. The airport's terminals have a combined capacity of 1.5 million passengers per year, but can be expanded to accommodate up to 3 million. In 2022, the airport handled 428,609 passengers and 5,513 aircraft operations. As a gateway to the Kurdish region, Sulaymaniyah International Airport reflects the local culture and hospitality.
