3Olympia Theatre: A Dublin Entertainment Icon

The 3Olympia Theatre, located on Dame Street in Dublin, has been a cornerstone of the city's entertainment scene since its opening in 1879. Originally named “Dan Lowrey's Star of Erin Music Hall,” the venue was designed by architect John J. Callaghan to bring music hall entertainment to Dublin. Over the years, it has undergone several transformations, including name changes to “Dan Lowrey's Music Hall,” “Dan Lowrey's Palace of Varieties,” and “Empire Palace” before finally becoming the Olympia Theatre in 1923. The theatre has hosted a diverse range of performances, from drama, opera, and ballet to films and pantomimes. World-famous names like Charlie Chaplin, Laurel and Hardy, and David Bowie have graced its stage. Despite facing challenges such as a near demolition in the 1960s and a proscenium arch collapse in 1974, the Olympia has persevered, thanks to community support and dedicated individuals. In 2021, the theatre was rebranded as the 3Olympia Theatre as part of an eight-year sponsorship deal with Three Ireland, a telecommunications company. Today, with a capacity of 1,600, the 3Olympia continues to offer an intimate setting for a wide array of performances, maintaining its status as one of Dublin's leading cultural venues.
