Discover more about Tibradden Mountain

Tibradden Mountain, whose Irish name Sliabh Thigh Bródáin translates to "mountain of the house of Bródáin," is a popular hiking destination located in County Dublin. Rising to a height of 467 meters (1,532 feet), it forms part of the Dublin Mountains and offers rewarding views of Dublin Bay, Two Rock, and the Wicklow Mountains. The mountain's slopes are covered in a diverse landscape. The lower reaches feature a Coillte-owned pine forest, with Scots pine, Japanese larch, and Sitka spruce. Higher up, the terrain transitions to blanket bog, home to heather and red grouse. Keep an eye out for Sika deer, foxes, and badgers that also inhabit the area. At the summit, you'll find a prehistoric burial cairn dating back to the Bronze Age. Excavated in 1849, the cairn revealed a central cist containing a pottery vessel and cremated remains. While local tradition incorrectly associates it with the High King of Ireland, Niall Glúndub, it's believed to be the burial place of Bródáin, after whom the mountain is named. A stone with a spiral pattern can be seen within the cairn. The Dublin Mountains Way hiking trail passes by this ancient monument.
