Discover more about Wolfe Tone Park

Wolfe Tone Park, nestled in Dublin's North City, provides a serene escape from the surrounding urban energy. This public space, also known as Wolfe Tone Square, occupies the site of the former St. Mary's Church graveyard. For almost three centuries, the graveyard served as a final resting place for parishioners before its conversion into a park. The park is named in honor of Theobald Wolfe Tone (1763–1798), a key figure in the United Irishmen movement and considered the father of modern Irish Republicanism. Tone was baptized in the adjacent St. Mary's Church. The graveyard, which had become overcrowded by the mid-19th century, was deconsecrated in 1966, and the headstones were moved to the perimeter. Today, Wolfe Tone Park offers a green space for relaxation and reflection. Visitors can wander along winding paths, admire the manicured lawns and flowerbeds, and view the public art. The park also provides seating areas for those seeking a quiet spot to unwind. The park has undergone redevelopment, including a period between 2020 and 2022 when Dublin City Council restored it to a green space.
