    Discover more about Millennium Bridge

The Millennium Bridge, or Droichead na Mílaoise in Irish, is a testament to Dublin's blend of historical charm and contemporary design. This pedestrian bridge gracefully spans the River Liffey, connecting the vibrant Temple Bar district with the north quays. Installed in December 1999, the bridge was a millennium project for Dublin Corporation, intended to mark the arrival of the year 2000. The design was the result of an international competition that attracted 157 entries, with Howley Harrington Architects and Price & Myers as the winning team. The bridge was designed to be lightweight, transparent and structurally daring. Fabricated in Carlow, approximately 80 kilometers from Dublin, the bridge's 41-meter span was transported to the city and installed in a single piece. The structure is a steel truss resting on reinforced concrete abutments. The gentle slope of the bridge ensures accessibility for all, including wheelchair users. The bridge provides access to the Luas Red Line. As you walk across the Millennium Bridge, take in the views of the River Liffey and the surrounding cityscape. To the east, you'll see the iconic Ha'penny Bridge, Dublin's original pedestrian bridge, while to the west stands the Grattan Bridge. The Millennium Bridge not only serves as a vital link between the north and south sides of the city but also offers a unique perspective on Dublin's architectural heritage.
