Discover more about Tullydermot Falls

Tullydermot Falls is a marvelous waterfall situated under the shadow of Cuilcagh Mountain in County Cavan. These majestic falls begin at the Cladagh River, a tributary of the River Erne, which flows eastwards from its source in Cuilcagh Mountain towards Swanlinbar. The falls are caused by the action of the water on the underlying bedrock, which consists of alternating layers of hard sandstones and softer shales. The fast-flowing river erodes the soft rock, leading to the undercutting of the overlying hard rock, creating the striking waterfall. The waterfall is easily accessible by foot, wheelchair, or buggy, with a trail leading from the parking lot. The path is approximately 75 meters from the road, making it a short and easy walk. The site is well-equipped with facilities including car parking, an interpretive information panel, picnic tables, and benches. In the winter of 2009, Tullydermot Falls was the scene of a massive collapse where several tonnes of the waterfall face collapsed. Despite this, the waterfall is still very impressive and well worth the visit. For the more adventurous, an unmaintained trail across the road leads to another waterfall about two miles up the river.
